The last few weeks have see critics and fans decide on their favourite albums and music moments of 2011, really like most awards it isn’t that important but it is a bit of fun that we seem to be intent on doing every year. I for one love end of year lists to the point of it becoming a bit of an unheathly obsession!

Pitchfork Readers Poll

Angles was #8 as the Most Underated Album and Under Cover of Darkness came in at 32 on the Top 50 Songs list. The Strokes were also 5th on the Best Comeback/Reunion poll

NME Readers Poll

Thanks to all the voting done by fans Angles came in at #2 on the NME Readers Best Album of 2011 poll and Under Cover of Darkness  was also #2 on the Top Song, well done everyone.

Angles was listed in the BBC’s Top Album Art of 2011, interesting choice seeing as how many people seemed to outright hate the art when it was first revealed. I was always indifferent to it myself.

You’re So Right won the Best Musical Performance on the Jimmy Fallon Late show

NY Times Concert Moments of 2011 included the spectacular Madison Square Garden show

Much like birthday videos fans have done before but this one is to say Merry Christmas/Season Greetings to The Strokes. All you need is a recording device and a smile!

End of year polls

Well its that time of year where critics and fans compile their favourite artists/records/songs of the year.  Angles had a mixed reception so I don’t expect it to turn up in many magazine/blog lists but you can still vote for it at the NME awards which take place in February

 My Favourite Strokes Moments of the Year

2011 marked the long awaited return of The Strokes and I thought it would be fun to write about my personal 10 favourite moments of the year, from hearing Under Cover Of Darkness for the first time to all the livestreams.  I aim to get the first part up this week .

The Strokes played Mexico for the first time in 5 years on Friday night. Despite Nick having to sit down due to a broken foot judging by the clips emerging on You Tube he still managed to rock the hell out.

The Strokes played T In The Park tonight, the fourth time they have played that festival and as always it went down a storm.

The BBC showed 6 songs from their set, there may bemore shown later on their website but for now enjoy, its really great seeing a professional live video for Machu Picchu.
