The Strokes set to play first gig since 2011 at the Governors Ball Festival

We have all longed for The Strokes to play live together especially as none of the delightful and awesome songs from Comedown Machine have yet to be played live but after Julian announced his own solo plans for spring and with a likely follow-up to Phrazes out around the same time I really did not expect to hear anything from The Strokes this year.

Well in a completely shocking announcement (really it is such a surprise) they will be playing the Governors Ball Festival which takes place on Randall’s Island NYC 6-8 June 2014. Not only that but Julian is scheduled to do a solo set as well.

I have no idea what is behind this maybe they got an offer that they simply couldn’t refuse (one of the reasons they played shows in 2010 was because festivals offered up a healthy sum of money) but whatever the reason this is great news for fans even those who won’t be able to attend because YouTube videos should allow us all a glimpse of the band doing what they do best, playing live.
