Julian Casablancas + The Voidz play a series of secret shows plus gigs at SxSw Festival

Julian Casablancas & The Voidz LogoJulian Casablancas + The Voidz play some secret shows

It all started on Saturday night (March 8) at Deep Space Arts in Washington, DC when unknown to everyone Julian and his new backing band The Voidz played a show.  There isn’t a lot of information about this gig because it was kept so secret though a photo did emerge.

They played another show on Monday night (March 10) in New Orleans at One Eyed Jacks – this was was actually known about in advance so we actually have some tantalizing news about what went down thanks to Somaismynamean over at Twitter who posted the setlist (which included Ize of the World!) and photos. You should also check out her Tumblr for some videos – I’m trying to resist listening to clips of the new songs…for now anyway!

Another show happened on Tuesday night (March 11) at The Handlebar venue in Florida.  Again thanks to fans on Twitter, this time John Long aka Coachclownsuit for providing some details – he described the new songs as hard rock similar to First Impressions Of Earth’s heavier sound rather than the 80s style Julian has been fond of lately.  This makes sense if you have repeatedly watched the Voidz album preview from last week (which I have!).

No word on a show for tonight but I wouldn’t be surprised if one happens.  If you are around that general area don’t forget to follow Cult Records on Twitter for any news.
